Abstract: | Engineering simulation is the utilization of computer software to simulate real-world phenomena to validate designs, solve problems, and improve performance or efficiency. Despite its perceived benefits by studies around the world, there are no reports on the usage in Thailand. The purpose of this study is to identify the key factors which are barriers to adopting engineering simulation in companies in Thailand and develop strategies to overcome them. An online questionnaire was used to collect data on four aspects of technology adoption; performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions. The results showed that barriers relating to performance were not found. However, barriers were found in terms of effort, social influence, and cost. To encourage adoption, firms’ management and software providers should work together to familiarize current and future users. The management should also expand usage in the company and the industry, while providers should help reduce effort and uncertainty in using the technology. Further research can be done with the semi-structured interview approach to gain deeper insight and consider more possible contributing factors. |
