Abstract: Thailand has established a policy to promote and drive the creative economy concept into communities in various cities in order to create the added values in local products and services and to provide more income to ensure the better well-being of people. In Chiang Mai, there has been an inheritance of folk arts, culture and wisdom which are deemed a valuably cultural capital. With a systematic use of this cultural potential as well as good and creative promotion and support to publicize, there will be social, cultural and economic advantages for urban communities. This research aimed at surveying the potential and readiness of communities in Chiang Mai that can support the creative and cultural city, determining a way to develop the potential of communities to promote the creative and cultural city. Demography, economics, society, culture, local tourism resources, folk crafts and arts, and potential to promote the community wisdom in supporting the creative and cultural city were examined so that the results obtained could be used as a guideline to develop the potential of communities as well as a model to further develop the potential of other communities in Chiang Mai.
