| Abstract: | This thematic paper estimates the intrinsic value of Walmart Inc. using a discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation framework. Walmart operates as a global omnichannel retailer with leading positions in grocery, general merchandise, membership-based retail, and digital platforms. The valuation is based on an analysis of Walmart’s business model, segment structure, competitive positioning, and long-term value drivers, including cost leadership, supply chain efficiency, digital transformation, and global scale. Financial projections are developed using historical performance, segment-level revenue trends, and external industry benchmarks, incorporating conservative assumptions for revenue growth, operating margins, capital expenditures, and working capital. The DCF analysis applies a free cash flow to the firm framework and reflects Walmart’s characteristics as a mature, large-cap retailer with stable cash flows and disciplined reinvestment. Key valuation inputs, including the weighted average cost of capital and terminal growth rate, are derived from market data, macroeconomic indicators, and established valuation literature. The results indicate that Walmart’s intrinsic value estimated by the DCF model is below its prevailing market price at the valuation date. This gap suggests that market pricing reflects optimistic assumptions regarding long-term growth and cost of capital, as well as a premium for Walmart’s defensive qualities and financial resilience. Overall, the findings support a Hold recommendation, positioning Walmart as a high-quality, low-risk investment with limited short-term upside, suitable for long-term, risk-averse investors. |
